The LLM exam format for the CLAT 2023 has been uploaded by the Consortium of National Law Universities. The descriptive section and the minimum cutoff marks are also re-introduced for the year 2023 by the consortium. The decision to remove the minimum cut-off criteria and subjective section was taken by the consortium in the year 2020 because of the outspread of COVID-19. CLAT Exam Pattern 2023
There have been some important and relevant changes announced by the CLAT Consortium related to the CLAT Exam Pattern last year. The changes include the reading comprehension type of questions that have been introduced, the number of questions has been reduced and the CLAT UG standard has been set to the level of Class 12. Check the following points to get a fair idea about the CLAT exam pattern of 2023.
Assessment of the Skills: According to the CLAT 2023 exam pattern designed by the Consortium of NLUs, the main focus is to assess the reading ability, analytical skill, and critical thinking of the candidates. It is a bit different from the previous year where the CLAT papers were prepared in a way to assess the knowledge of different topics and subjects of the candidates.
Questions Type: According to the exam pattern of CLAT 2023, the questions asked for UG and PG course will be of comprehension type. The test paper comprises several passages each with a word limit of 300 – 450 words. There will be a number of multiple-choice questions along every passage. The applicants need to mark the answer from the available passages only. The candidates need not required to have previous knowledge in several sections. Although, if the applicant does have knowledge from before then it will help them in understanding the passages properly.

- The main focus of the CLAT question paper is to assess the reasoning ability and reading comprehension skills of the applicants. The official website states that “Overall, it is designed to be a test of aptitude and skills that are necessary for a legal education rather than prior knowledge, though prior knowledge occasionally may be useful to respond to questions in the Current Affairs section,”
- The question difficulty level available in the test is more or less of the 12th Standard level
- There will be comprehensions in every section of the Question paper of CLAT UG 2023. It implies that exam every section comprises propositions, reading passages, or a few short sets of facts, graphs, etc along with the question series. The applicants need to go through the comprehensions and then answer the questions accordingly.
